Coach John is a graduate of Mc Clymonds high school (Class of 1987). At McClymonds, John played Varsity basketball with NBA journeyman Antonio Davis (Toronto Raptors 2006) and "Playground Legend" Demetrius "Hook" Mitchell. John attended the College of Alameda where he started for 2yrs. and was offered an opportunity to attend Sonoma St. Univ. to play and further his education. In 1993 he became involved in the special education dept. with the Oakland Unified School District helping to develop and implement independent living, community and social skills for student from pre school thru Jr. High School. In 1997 while working with the O.U.S.D he became interested in coaching and joined the coaching staff of Leroy at Piedmont HS. In 1999 he became employed with the Alameda County probation department as a Group Counselor I and began coaching girl's basketball full time with coach Leroy at St. Elizabeth High School. During the 1999-2000 season, John served as Varsity Assistant Coach for St. Elizabeth HS and also teamed up with coach Hurt to lead the 8th grade St. Liz. CYO team to the Oakland league title, placing 3rd in the Diocese Championship Tournament. In 2001, John coached at Piedmont High School where he was Varsity Assistant and J.V. head coach. John has assisted coach Leroy with preparing talented and skilled girl's for competitive basketball play. Coach John has been labeled a motivator, a mentor, an advisor, and a “players” coach. John brings more than 20 yrs. of playing and coaching experience to the CA BALLAZ Program and is completely committed to developing and preparing our kids for academic and athletic achievement. By teaching kids to confront life’s challenges on and off the court, John believes instilling these leadership qualities prepare kids for future success.
